In our experience, we’ve found that our retail package design clients typically fall into one of these categories;
(1) New to the channel and have a product ready to package.
(2) Knows the market well, knows how the product is to be packaged and delivers a tight creative brief.
(3) Already sells to their home market and wants to expand sales to international territories.
(1) Back to basics.
When we develop a retail pack, we go right back to basics, way before any creative process. We checkout out the competition on-line, photograph their product packaging in-situ, in-store and learn why the market leader is successful. We analyze all of these components which we build into the creative process. Initial designs are created in flat format, in 3D then tested. The process is fine tuned until all aspects have been satisfied and our client is happy with the result. Then we create the printers pack, ready for manufacture. We don’t stop there; we monitor and quality check printing and packaging right up to delivery of first run samples.
(2) Exacting brief
If, on the other hand we receive a tight and accurate brief then we’ll jump straight into the creative process, producing 2D images, developing marks and pack-shots prior to fine tuning, going to print and monitoring the process until samples are delivered.
(3) New territories
Packaging that works in one country doesn't necessarily work in others. The competition might be different, colors and styles, returns processing, languages, names and retailers/distributors that have different control systems. This seems obvious on the surface but unless you’ve had first hand experience operating in other territories then resolving these issues can be time consuming and expensive. Through our experience we’ve developed a network of specialists who can get your products into the channel and we’ll work with them and you to give your product the best chance of success.
